Janie's tale is a long one that shows her evolution from someone who does not value herself, to a woman fully invested in herself and her own future (she finds herself and her own inner strength). At the end of the story, by shooting Tea Cake she frees herself from decades of abuse at the hands of an oppressive mindset and society.
