How does Will's being fired put Lily Dale in an awkward position?

Because he has put all of his cash into the new house, Will has to ask Lily Dale for her Christmas money in order to start a new business. Lily Dale has given away practically half of it behind Will's back, and now she has to break the news to him at a time when he needs the money desperately.
