Thea has always worn her hair long, tied in a braid that hangs down her back. For 1930, this was a very old-fashioned look. Thea cuts her hair to be a blunt bob, which was considered much more fashionable. This haircut not only symbolizes Thea outgrowing her life in Emathla, it also shows she is becoming more like the girls of Yonalossee.
