what is the moral of the story?

A Moral is a lesson. It's difficult to just draw a moral in this story because there are deeper cocepts at play. I think theme is much more effective in communicating meaning. The most prevalent theme in "The Yellow Wallpaper " is that of women's oppression, and this concept plays a role in every story in this collection as this was a major purpose behind Gilman's writing. In "The Yellow Wallpaper," female oppression is seen in several instances. First, the narrator's husband disregards her belief in her poor health, insisting that it is a mental weakness instead. Additionally, he confines her to an upstairs room and insists that she rest constantly. The narrator is treated like a child by her husband and any effort to assert her identity is thwarted by his patriarchal orders.
