What is the importance of Courbevoie, France in the novel, The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles?

Courbevoie is a suburb of Paris and is where Josephine and Antoine Cortes and their daughters live in an apartment building. Although very modern and nice, the area is not as expensive or "high-brow" as the main city of Paris.
