What did Bartle notice in Chapter 5 when the plane from Germany flew over land?

As the plane from Germany flew over land, Bartle was amazed by all the green. There seemed to be trees growing out of every inch of land. It was spring and even from the height of the plane, the blooms were green. Everything seemed to be impossibly green.
