In Chapter 9, how would Bartle spend his mornings?

Mornings Bartle would walk up to the roof of his apartment building. He would use a cheap rifle that he had picked up from Kmart and shoot at the trash at the base of the building. He would consider shooting birds, but then he would remove unfired cartridges from his gun.
