The author's tone is matter-of-fact and practical. Sahota continually represents shocking events and even physical altercations in a way that is both vivid and unstrained. Although he provides a wealth of physical detail, he refrains from using language that is charged or opinionated -- he focuses instead on the concrete realities of the situation, allowing the reader to place themselves within the action and form their own judgments.
