What do Sookan and the other children learn at the Japanese school in the novel, Year of Impossible Goodbyes?

Attending the Japanese school was not a form of education, but rather, a place where child labor took place. Sookan and the other students have to make weapons which they will supposedly use against the "White Devils" if the country gets invaded.
