What is the importance of mirrors in the novel, The Wrong Family?

Throughout the novel, the author uses mirrors to symbolize self-reflection. Winnie and Juno are often depicted either gazing into or avoiding contact with mirrors. If they see their physical reflection, the women seem afraid of what they might encounter emotionally. When they avoid the mirrors, they are also attempting to avoid confronting something about their interior they do not like.
