Who is Karl Marx from The Worldly Philosophers and what is their importance?

Nineteenth century philosopher and economic thinker, Karl Marx, co-authored The Communist Manifesto, which called for the violent overthrow of the ruling order. He then authored Capital which was a multi-volume analysis of capitalism with value being determined by labor. Marx was educated at the universities in Bonn and Berlin, where he was greatly influenced by the writings of Hegel. He met Engels when he was editing a radical magazine in Paris, and they wrote The Communist Manifesto in 1848. The Marx family then moved to London where they spent the remainder of their lives living in poverty, while Marx wrote articles and the volumes of Capital.
