Count Henri de Rouvroy de Saint-Simone was an aristocratic descendent of Charlemagne, who was born in 1760. He believed in democracy, he fought in the American Revolution, and he returned home to France in time for the French Revolution. He became a philosopher, began writing and somehow inspired a sect of followers that became the basis for an industrial religion. Saint-Simone's views were based on the fact that and individual's share of society's rewards should be based on contribution. The workers contribute more than the nobility, yet it was the workers who receive the smaller share of the output.
