Port Yooga is the predominantly white town which lies next to Cross River. Port Yooga acts as the antithesis to Cross River: a town without music which rejects David. It is only after visiting Port Yooga that David is able to identify the sound which makes Cross River special. Scott therefore places Port Yooga in juxtaposition with Cross River to emphasize the uniqueness of Cross River and what sets it apart from the dominant culture of America.
