How does the author use foreshadowing in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz?

At the very start of the novel, the Munchkin tells Dorothy, “the Witch of the East was proud of those silver shoes, and there is some charm connected with them; but what it is we never know”. This comment foreshadows the upcoming trouble from the Witch of the West.
