Why does Beatrice change her name in the novel, The Women of Chateau Lafayette?

Beatrice's real name is actually "Minnie Ashley" (455). She chose the name Beatrice when she married Willie. It sounded more posh and respectable, as Minnie Ashley could never be the name of someone important.
