On the same day that Anna hears screams from the Russell house, David has borrowed a box cutter from her because he has been hired by Alistair to help him unpack. Hoping to get information from David about Alistair, Anna goes to David’s apartment one day when he is away. She sees an earring similar to the one the woman she believed was Jane was wearing on the day they played chess together. Paired with the information that David has been in jail for assault, Anna jumps to the conclusion that perhaps David was responsible for hurting Jane. David becomes the unintentional victim of Ethan and Alistair’s attempt to cover up Katherine’s murder. David moves out of Anna’s basement and will not return her calls even though she tries to apologize to him.
