What prompts Ethan's frustration and subsequent killing of Katherine in the novel, The Woman in the Window?

After tracking Ethan down, Katherine approaches him while his parents are out of town. Ethan agrees to see Katherine because he wants to know who his birth father is. Her refusal to name his father is the main reason that Ethan gets frustrated and kills her.
