Prince Edward was the son of Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. He was also Henry VIII's only surviving male child, and as such, he became the first in line for the crown of England. Edward was very young when Henry VIII married Catherine Parr, and he and Catherine soon forged a strong relationship. He often referred to Catherine as his most beloved mother. When Henry VIII died, Edward became king at the age of nine, with his uncle Edward Seymour as his chief advisor. Edward VI would rule seven years before his death to tuberculosis.
