Who is Anne Boleyn from The Wives of Henry VIII and what is their importance?

Anne Boleyn served as a member of Catherine of Aragon's household during her late teens and early twenties. As a young woman, she served the Queen of France, returning to England in her late teens and falling in love with a young man who also served in the King's court. Anne was said to have made a marriage commitment to this young man and possibly having consummated that vow. However, the relationship ended by the order of the king who learned of it from one of his courtiers.

Several years later, Henry became aware of Anne Boleyn and fell in love with her as many men before had. The king saw her as a potential lover, who could fulfill his deepest desire, the opportunity to have a son. Anne Boleyn served as Henry's mistress for many years, but their relationship was not consummated until the year before their wedding. Henry VIII, in fact, married Anne several months before he was granted a divorce from Catherine of Aragon through the Catholic Church. Several months after their wedding, Anne was crowned Queen of England. Their relationship, however, grew sour after Anne was unable to provide a male heir.

In the end, Henry VIII's advisors investigated Anne for infidelity, eventually beheading her, her brother, and several others for treason in connection to Anne's supposed infidelity.
