Why was it impossible for Perry and Phyllis to send Thursday greeting cards in the novel, The Wives?

Thursday has greeting cards she believed she received from Perry and Phyllis, but those cards are studied by a handwriting specialist who determines that Thursday signed their names on the cards. There was no way that Perry and Phyllis could have sent those cards because they were already dead when Seth and Thursday began their relationship.
