How does Beatrice escape the church cellar in the novel, The Witches of New York?

After Reverend Townsend kidnaps Beatrice, he holds her in the church cellar. She escapes the cellar by starting a fire that burns down the parsonage but leaves the church unscathed. The Reverend perishes in the fire.
