Who is Anne Hutchinson from The Winthrop Woman and what is their importance?

Anne Hutchinson was famous for her banishment from the Bay Colony. An independent thinker and kindred spirit with Bess, Anne was tried in Boston, with John Winthrop being the main force behind her conviction. Her crime was to suggest that perhaps the spirit of God is accessible to us personally, something that frightened and infuriated the rigid and superstitious Puritans. Anne, along with her brother-in-law John Wheelwright, was banished from the Bay Colony. She went onto live in Rhode Island, where she was killed by Native Americans.
