Why did Ruth choose to leave Beartown in the novel, The Winners (Beartown Series)?

After Ruth was raped by Rodri, a boy from Hed, she told both the police and her parents what happened to her, but neither of them believed her. When she saw what happened to Maya after she said that Kevin had raped her, Ruth decided she needed to leave town. Two years later, Ruth died of a drug overdose.
