How does the author use foreshadowing in the novel, The Winners (Beartown Series)?

The narrator tells the story like a person might play hockey, with feints and false starts. He foreshadows from the beginning that Benji will die violently. This foreshadowing suggests that Benji will get into a fight, resulting in his death. It turns out that Benji does die violently, but he also dies a hero because he saves a life.
