What is the author's tone in The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame?

The tone of this story is playful with a sense of nostalgia for innocence. Even though there are adventures, there is always a tone playful safety. As Mole discovers more of river life there is also a tone of discovery while rooted in sense of place.
