After losing their home due to unpaid debts, the Miyawakis stay at an inn in another town. While there, Miyawaki strangled his younger daughter, Yukie, with a belt. Afterwards, Kojiro and Natsuko Miyawaki hanged themselves. Their older daughter was never found. People in the neighborhood call the former Miyawaki house "The Hanging House."
