What is a "Kidnap Marriage" in the novel, The Will of the Empress?

Kidnap Marriage is a custom in Namorn that dates back to the old Haidheltac which was the seed country from which the entire empire of Namorn had come. It is a way of forcing marriage on an unwilling bride, kidnapping and confining her until she either agrees or dies.
