Ingenuity is a recurring idea in the story. The Baudelaire children are continually called upon to exercise their ingenuity. In The Wide Window, Violet faces her toughest challenge as she tries to figure out how to create more time. Instead of building a complicated device, she uses her ingenuity to come up with a simple answer to this problem.
