What does the murder of Mr. Ashok represent thematically in The White Tiger?

Balram’s actions can be seen as literally striking a blow for freedom, wealth, and entrepreneurship. The murder is, on some level, the most blackly, and ironically, entrepreneurial thing Balram has done throughout the entire novel.
