Why does Henry spare Lambert's life in the novel, The White Princess?

Lambert is the first pretender prince and one of the few betrayers Henry spared throughout the novel. He was raised to be a pretender prince from birth and has the education of a nobleman. When he is captured, he repents everything and his life is spared. Instead, Henry sends him to work in the kitchen where Elizabeth says Lambert was able to make a new, successful life for himself.
