Why did George initially abduct Neil Spencer in the novel, The Whisper Man?

George took Neil intending to take care of him and show him that he was loved. Instead, Neil angered George by telling him that he was not happy living with him. George killed Neil and returned his body to the waste ground from which he had abducted him.
