.
.
Aaron nicknames Patricia Starling-Haight and Patricia Smith as Librarian Patricia and Conservation Patricia, respectively. They are both strict, seemingly severe older women who work in the manuscripts room. Aaron eventually comes to understand them, using them as references for British culture as a whole. He recognizes their love as expressed in the form of adherence to the rules that preserve historical documents, and the care the women put into protecting them. The Patricias assist Helen in a dangerous health situation on the day of her exist interview with Jonathan Martin. Along with Aaron, Patricia Starling-Haight finds Helen passed away in her apartment and is involved in organizing the funeral and attending to her possessions.
