The Way Up to Heaven
How does the author use symbolism in the short story, The Way Up to Heaven?
.
.
One example of sybmolism can be found in the fog, which is used to represent Mrs. Foster’s level of anxiety. When Mr. Foster bullies Mrs. Foster and encourages her to feel anxious in the car on the day of her flight, the fog is extremely thick. This symbolizes the fact that Mrs. Foster is overwhelmed by her anxiety. However, the following day, when Mrs. Foster is more confident and assertive, the sky is perfectly clear.
