What causes the cancellation of Rokhl's marriage in the novel, The Way Back?

Rokhl, the Rebbe of Zubinsk's granddaughter, is supposed to be married the day after Yehuda Leib, Bluma, the Dark Messenger, and others enter Zubinsk. However, the Rebbe's death calls a halt to the ceremony.
