It acts as an effective metaphor for how the reader should interpret what is a very complex text. Rather than trying to figure out all the details of each individual character and further separating them, the reader should instead simplify the matter,and recognize that their six consciousnesses, when presented in such a way as Woolf does, can effectively function as one "entity."
