The characters are meeting at a restaurant in Hampton Court for their first gathering since they all met before Percival left. This is important because it picks up where Woolf was leading the reader in the previous section. Putting all the characters in the same place reaffirms the reader's suspicions that the group is reforming. It is important to note also that Bernard essentially occupies the Percival role in this nearly parallel scene. He arrives to find all the others already waiting. However, the others do not relax upon Bernard's arrival as they did when Percival arrived, but they do come to be more at ease with each other as the meal progresses.
