Section 3 begins with the sun having fully risen, and the natural landscape has become full of life. The section begins with Bernard musing upon the nature of human identity, which denotes that he is slowly fashioning his own identity. This corresponds to the introduction's descriptions of the way the light sharpens the objects it falls on.
