Neville remains deeply affected by Percival's death. He carries it with him wherever he goes, including forming new relationships. We learn that Neville fears solitude to such a degree that it is leading to self-destructive meditations on death. Furthermore, it is clear that Neville is still deeply in love with Percival, and that although he does engage in new relationships, his futile efforts only seek to fill the void that was left by Percival's death.
