Who is Dominic Palazzolo from The Virgin Suicides and what is their importance?

Dominic Palazzolo is an overly romantic boy of Italian descent who only appears during the first chapter of the novel. He speaks almost no intelligible English but has fallen for Diana Porter, a wealthy girl living in the same suburb. Inspired by his love for the rich girl, he jumps off the roof of his house. Luckily, he walks away from the event unarmed. Soon afterward, he has to move back with his parents to a different state.
