Each of the novel’s three parts is written from a different point of view. Part 1, "The Vegetarian," is written from the first person point of view of Mr. Cheong. The novel’s second part, "Mongolian Mark," is written in third person narration that focuses on the point of view of the artist, the husband of Yeong-hye’s sister and a character who is never given a name, but is identified solely by what he does. The novel’s third part, "Flaming Trees," is narrated from the third-person point of view of In-hye, Yeong-hye’s older sister and the wife of the artist
