What does Althea deduce as the reason for the mummy's feet being smashed in the novel, The Vandemark Mummy?

Althea was initially puzzled by the fact that the mummy's feet had been smashed. Then she remembered the letters which had been printed there, the Greek letters which could be an undiscovered poem by Sappho since they spelled out the name of her daughter, Kleis.
