Lestat is an eighteenth century man, who is also the son of a marquis. The language he uses suggests that this is the upbringing he had, though as a mortal, he was not highly educated. Only after he became a vampire did he learn how to read and write, and only then it was because of his preternatural abilities. The differences in his language are most distinct in the beginning and ending of his story when it is the modern day. It is then that his language sounds antiquated and too proper for the times. Not only that, there is the suggestion that his French background alters the way he lays the story out in English.
