Why does Tyler resent the people in the community of Fells Church in the novel, The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and the Struggle?

Over the course of the story, we learn that Tyler has long been harboring resentments about the town since his family is actually among the original founders but has never been given the consideration or kudos they deserve.
