How does the author use hyperbole in the novel, The Upside of Unrequited?

Molly senses the hyperbole, exaggeration, in other character’s statements and often points out their overstatements. For instance “I grab a wad of it to pass under the girl’s door, and her hand brushes mine as she takes it. ‘Okay, you just saved my life.’ / I saved a life. Right here in the bathroom of the 9:30 Club” (2). Of course, Molly did not save the girl’s life by giving her some toilet tissue, but it is a common way for teens to overemphasize their experience.
