Bakha recalls what a fierce competitor Charat Singh is considered to be. He has heard that Charat Singh spends a lot of time in the hospital in between matches, and that he has as many scars from hockey as the legendary warrior Rana Sanga had from battle. He knows that Charat Singh has lost all of his teeth playing hockey and now has false ones, "mounted with gold" (91).
