When Chota hears about how the priest treated Bakha and Sohini, he is angry and proclaims that the next time the priest comes into the outcaste colony, they will "skin him" (84). But when Bakha shares the story of how the woman in the alley house treated him, Chota is philosophical, saying that he is sorry to hear this but Bakha should try to forget about it, because "What can we do? We are outcastes" (84).
