Bakha and his friends tease one another often, and sometimes in ways that are hurtful. His friends are less serious about their work and duties, and they try to pull Bakha away from attending to his own work and duties. Despite these drawbacks, the three share a common admiration for the British way of life and feel more comfortable with one another than they do with others in their outcaste community.
