Initially the wilderness safari outing at Glacier Bay was meant to be a romantic celebration for Helen and Conrad on their fortieth anniversary. In light of Helen's recent death, Greta ends up accompanying Conrad on the safari. Glacier Bay thus becomes the setting for Greta and Conrad's most challenging yet most productive dialogue. During the outing, the daughter and father finally confront the truth of their difficulties with one another. Following this conversation, they scatter Helen's ashes together, and thus move towards healing and renewal.
