Why does the theory of general relativity break down when discussing the Big Bang?

Penrose and Hawking demonstrated that the general relativity theory proves the Big Bang. Even though we now understand the beginning of the chain of events, scientific reasoning and laws should still be applied to understanding it. As of this course, general relativity breaks down because it doesn't include the Heisenberg uncertainty.
