In the 1970s, the new sort of symmetry that was discovered was supersymmetry. Supersymmetry uncovered a natural physical mechanism and suggests space-time has dimensions beyond our capability to perceive. Real numbers are not used to measure these variables and instead, "Grassmann" variables are used.
